The Black Country Rubbish Challenge aims to help you reduce the amount of rubbish that you throw away by 25%.
How can you get involved?
The first thing to do is look at how you can reduce the amount of rubbish you produce. The sections of this website: At home, At the Shops, At School and Top tips all provide you with practical things you can do to reduce your rubbish and get some real benefits from doing it.
There are many ways to reduce the rubbish in your bin. The best is not to produce rubbish in the first place and this site shows you how. A great way to cut down on your rubbish is to buy refills as there is less packaging. Another way is to re-use things to stop them becoming rubbish. Why not try reusing your supermarket carrier bags. Some supermarkets even give you a penny back for each bag you reuse. There are lots more ideas like this on this site.
You can also recycle rather than throwing your waste away. There are kerbside collections for some waste; usually these are for newspapers, glass and sometimes cans. You simply wash the cans and glass out and put them in a different bin or box. These are then collected in the same way your rubbish bin is emptied. Other items can also be recycled but you may need to take them to a recycling centre that can often be found at supermarkets. A list of recycling centres is shown in the “In my area” part of the site.
