Why Reduce Rubbish?Every resident in the Black Country produces over half a tonne of waste each year. Many of the products that we throw out have a value and can be used again, but currently most ends up at a rubbish tip. The UK produces 420 million tonnes of household rubbish every year: staggeringly the amount collected in only 1 hour throughout the UK would fill the Albert Hall. Some people have discovered that their waste is not really rubbish. Instead of throwing things away, they have found they can be used again for another purpose or they can recycle them. Often they are able to save themselves money whilst also improving the environment. In the UK there is less land available for rubbish tips than ever before and the tips that are operating are filling up quickly. This means that prices to dump your rubbish are increasing and ultimately you will pay for this increase in rising taxes. So minimising the rubbish you produce means you save money and also save the environment too, making it a nicer world for your children and their children. When you think about it, throwing an item away is a complete waste of the valuable resources and energy that has been used to make it. In addition, the vast majority of resources that we use in manufacturing products and providing services cannot be replaced, so we will eventually run out! It makes better sense to use what we already have. |
