At School

This section will show you how your school can go to the top of the class on waste.

Tackling waste in your school won’t just save money and resources. It will also provide an opportunity for children to learn about the environment and our impact upon it. There are some great games and quizzes for you to have a go at that will teach you about reducing rubbish without you having to read any boring stuff. You will be introduced to the ‘Lunchtime Challenge’ with some great tips for reducing the rubbish you have to throw away.

Schools spend between £300 and £1000 a year to get rid of rubbish. Yet they could cut the amount they need to dispose of by over 50%, leaving more money for books, equipment and better buildings. This section will give you some ideas how to cut down the amount of rubbish that is thrown away in schools. There are also some great ideas to encourage the children to reduce their rubbish and get involved in recycling projects.

Whether it’s setting up a school collection scheme for recyclables or developing projects to raise awareness of waste around the school, recycling can be a real education. Moreover, there’s no shortage of organisations to turn to for help, information and teacher resources. Contact your local authority’s recycling officer to find out what’s available.
